--------------------------------------------------- Firmware upload utility for NORMA Power Analysers --------------------------------------------------- The firmware upload utility is used to update the internal software (called "firmware") of the NORMA Power Analysers when new firmware is released. The upload utility transfers a firmware file from computer to instrument using serial RS-232 interface and tells the instrument to update its firmware. The upload utility is standalone Windows application (single executable file named "FWload.exe"). That means that there is no installation package provided for this utility. It can be run directly from the storage media (hard drive, floppy disk, network, etc.). The utility runs on any 32-bit Windows operating system (Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP). The firmware file has extension ".srec" (S-record). It is provided by the manufacturer of the instrument and can be stored on any media. To update the instrument's firmware, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the instrument. 2. Connect the instrument to the PC using RS-232 cable. 3. Turn on the instrument. 4. Go to general setup screen of the instrument. 5. Select "RS232" as System IF 6. Make sure the speed of the instrument's RS-232 interface is set to 115200 bauds. 7. Run the upload utility ("FWload.exe"). 8. Click on 'Upload' button. 9. Browse for the firmware file (*.srec) you want the instrument to update with. 10. Select PC serial port the instrument is connected to. You can select one of the serial port names present in the listbox or enter the device name manually from the keyboard (e.g. "vcom10"). 11. Click on 'Start' button. 12. Wait until upload is finished. This may take few minutes. 13. The instrument will automatically restart after successful completion of the upload. If the instrument doesn't work (no intro or measurement screen appears), try to upload the firmware again using emergency procedure: 1. Turn off the instrument. 2. Hold down the 'Enter' key on the instrument while powering it on. This should bring the instrument to the upload-ready state even though you may not see anything on the instrument's screen. 3. Continue with standard upload procedure above beginning with step 7. --------------------- End of the document ---------------------
